HUCTW Alleges University Violating Contract by Denying Access to Sexual Harassment Complaint Procedure

The Harvard Union of Clerical and Technical Workers (HUCTW) has accused Harvard University of breaching their contract by denying union members access to the sexual harassment complaint resolution process outlined in their agreement. According to the union, Harvard insists that employees must use the University's Title IX process instead of the contractual problem-resolution process, which involves collaborative investigation and third-party arbitration if necessary. The union argues that the Title IX process, controlled entirely by the University, has been insufficient, particularly in cases involving powerful faculty or managers. HUCTW maintains that members should have access to both the Title IX procedure and the contractual resolution process. Harvard's spokesperson did not address the contract violation claim but emphasized the University's commitment to providing compliant procedures for harassment complaints. The union expressed willingness to discuss potential conflicts between Title IX regulations and their contract.
