Law Review Apologizes For Parody of Frug Piece
The Harvard Law Review issued a public apology for a parody of an article by the late feminist scholar Mary Joe Frug, published in a spoof edition called the Revue, which has sparked significant criticism. The parody, perceived as offensive and insensitive, was particularly criticized for its mockery of Frug and other deceased scholars. Law Review President Emily R. Schulman denounced the piece as "vicious and indefensible," and announced the establishment of a task force to examine the status of women within the organization. The Law Review will also discontinue future spoof editions and donate the associated funds to charity. Despite internal debate, the Law Review decided against identifying or sanctioning those responsible for the parody. The incident prompted condemnation from various student groups and highlighted ongoing issues related to the treatment of women within the Law Review. Some editors reported harassment during discussions about the issue, further illustrating the institution's cultural problems.| Creator |
