History Prof Denies Charges of Sexism

Harvard history professor James Hankins denied allegations of making disparaging remarks about feminism and denying the existence of date rape and sexual harassment during a History 10a lecture. Some students reported that Hankins said feminists invented sexual harassment and date rape to gain dominance in society, which shocked many in the class. Hankins claimed his statements were misinterpreted, emphasizing he acknowledged the reality of date rape and sexual harassment but noted feminists introduced these concepts. Despite calls for a public apology from students, Hankins refused, asserting there was nothing to apologize for. While some students found his remarks offensive, others defended them as jokes, although Hankins insisted his comments were serious and emphasized the importance of sensitivity to these issues, noting his own wife had faced sexual exploitation.
