More Rapes Reported at Harvard in 2014 than Any Other Mass. School

In 2014, Harvard reported the highest number of on-campus rapes among Massachusetts schools, with 33 cases, according to the U.S. Department of Education's Clery Act data. This number was higher than larger institutions and peer universities within the state. The increase in reports at Harvard was interpreted it as an indication that more victims were coming forward by university officials. Despite efforts to encourage reporting, a university-wide survey revealed that a majority of female students who experienced nonconsensual sexual acts did not formally report the incidents. The federal government, through the Office for Civil Rights, continues to investigate Harvard for compliance with Title IX.
