Sexual Assault Complaints Increased By 65 Percent Last Year

Harvard saw a 65% increase in formal complaints of sexual harassment during 2016-2017,with 43 individuals filing complaints, up from 26 last year. 138 individuals at the College also informally disclosed incidents of sexual or gender-based harassment to Title IX coordinators, up from 121. Title IX administration was split into two offices last year, one providing immediate resources and the other offering formal investigations and official complaints. Despite concerns over changes in federal Title IX enforcement, Harvard remains committed to its current procedures. These efforts follow recommendations from a University-wide task force and a 2015 sexual assault climate survey.
