Report Cites Higher Rape Statistics
An annual report titled "Playing It Safe," recently released by Harvard University, has revealed that the average number of rapes reported on campus each year between 2008 and 2010 is 15, significantly higher than the four per year formally reported to the Harvard University Police Department. This larger figure includes confidential reports made to University Health Services (UHS) and the Office of Sexual Assault and Prevention (OSAPR). The report has alarmed several students, with some suspecting that the actual number of assaults might be even higher due to underreporting. UHS spokesperson Lindsey Garofalo highlighted that many victims are reluctant to report assaults due to personal and societal barriers. National data supports this, showing that sexual assaults are often underreported compared to other crimes.| Creator |
