Four Convicted in '01 Pit Murder

A jury convicted four suspects of first-degree murder in the killing of Io Nachtwey, a homeless woman living in the Harvard Square "Pit." The defendants—Ismael Vasquez, Luis Vasquez, Harold Parker, and Scott Davenport—were found guilty after a six-week trial with conflicting testimonies. Nachtwey was gangraped, stabbed, and thrown into the Charles River to intimidate her friends who had refused to join the defendants' robbery gang. The jury also convicted Parker and the Vasquez brothers of kidnapping, and Luis Vasquez of rape. All received life sentences without parole. The defense plans to appeal, criticizing the short deliberation time.
