Doctor, Found Guilty of Rape, Pleads Innocent to New Counts
Dr. Arif Hussain, an anesthesiologist recently convicted of raping a nurse during his residency at a Harvard teaching hospital, pleaded innocent to new charges of raping one patient and sexually assaulting another at Waltham Hospital. Hussain, who turned himself in after an arrest warrant was issued, was released on his own recognizance pending an pre-trial conference. He had been working at Children's Hospital in Buffalo which suspended him after learning of his criminal record and pending charges. Hussain was hired based on recommendations from three Harvard-affiliated doctors, none of which mentioned his prior conviction. The new allegations come from a 39-year-old Connecticut woman and a 26-year-old Boston woman, both of whom reported the incidents to hospital authorities in 1978 but only went to the police after Hussain's first trial gained publicity.| Creator |
