Grand Jury Indicts Elster, Adds New Indecent Assault Count
A Cambridge grand jury indicted Harvard student Joshua M. Elster '00 on charges of three counts of rape, two counts of assault and battery, and one count of indecent assault and battery against a fellow undergraduate. The grand jury added the sixth count, indicating sufficient evidence to proceed to trial. Elster was initially arrested on January 31 for the first five counts. Dean Harry R. Lewis '68 and Assistant Dean Karen E. Avery '87 questioned the portrayal of the incident as "date rape." The alleged victim has not commented, and the district attorney's office has withheld further details pending trial.| Creator |
