Lawsuit Alleges Harvard Mishandled Harassment Complaints
Hundreds of Harvard students and faculty members held a demonstration supporting three graduate students—Lilia Kilburn, Margaret Czerwienski, and Amulya Mandava—who have sued the university for mishandling their sexual harassment complaints against Anthropology professor John Comaroff. The lawsuit alleges Comaroff kissed, groped, and threatened students' careers if they reported him. Protesters, including Anthropology chair Ajantha Subramanian, demanded an independent investigation process, criticizing Harvard's Title IX procedures as biased and ineffective. The lawsuit claims Harvard ignored prior complaints against Comaroff from his time at the University of Chicago and mishandled the current investigation by improperly sharing Kilburn's therapy records with Comaroff. Despite initial support from 38 professors, many retracted their endorsements after further details emerged. The plaintiffs and their supporters call for systemic changes to ensure student safety and accountability for faculty misconduct.| Creator |
