Harvard Will Move to Dismiss Suit Over Sexual Harassment Case

Harvard is seeking to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Alyssa R. Leader ’15, which alleges the University mishandled her sexual assault investigation. Harvard's initial response, filed four months after the lawsuit was opened, indicates an intent to dismiss rather than settle. The lawsuit claims that Harvard showed "deliberate indifference" in handling Leader's complaints against a male student who allegedly abused and harassed her. Despite Leader's reports to various administrators and a formal investigation by ODR, Doe was found "Not Responsible" on all charges. Harvard's legal strategy includes using the ODR report to demonstrate compliance with Title IX and its own policies while protecting the privacy of those involved. The University also seeks to dismiss charges against its Board of Overseers, arguing it is not a corporate entity.
