Woman Files Discrimination Grievances

Pearl A. Croxton, a recently fired staff assistant in Harvard's Office of Fiscal Services, has charged the University with sex and race discrimination, filing grievances with both Harvard and the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Croxton, a 10-year employee, was dismissed for alleged frequent tardiness, but she contends that her termination was due to her being Black and a woman. Following a meeting with Harvard officials, she expressed willingness to drop her complaints if rehired, while acknowledging that Harvard's records may substantiate her tardiness. The EEOC will mediate, and if Croxton's claims are validated and she is not reinstated, she may be encouraged to sue. The NAACP has offered its support, and Government Professor Martin L. Kilson Jr. attended the meeting as an NAACP representative.
