Full Transparency, Full Equality

A recent survey revealed that tenured female professors at Harvard earn 92.5 cents for every dollar earned by their male counterparts, placing Harvard in the middle range of Ivy League schools regarding gender pay gaps. While this is slightly better than the national average of 85 cents per dollar, the editorial emphasizes that this gap remains unacceptable. Additionally, only 27 percent of tenured faculty at Harvard are female, which is deemed inadequate given that around half of the student body is female. The editorial calls for more detailed data on gender pay gaps stratified by discipline, and also suggests analyzing pay disparities along lines of race and sexuality to address systemic inequalities comprehensively.
