'Sexism' - The Harvard Crimson: From Our Readers
The article addresses the pervasive issue of sexism within the Harvard community. The authors recount a recent incident where male students hosted a social event and displayed posters with offensive comments, including one about a rape victim which read, "She asked for it." This incident highlights a troubling insensitivity and lack of awareness among some students regarding the seriousness of sexual harassment and rape. Another example is given where classmates mocked the "Take Back the Night" march, showing a disregard for the fear and concerns motivating such events. The authors argue that many people at Harvard trivialize issues of sexual harassment and rape, considering them irrelevant to their lives. They draw a parallel between the historical acceptance of racist humor and the current dismissal of feminist concerns, emphasizing the need for continued protest and awareness to combat sexism in all its forms.Files
