Hospital Calls Letters 'Regrettable'
Brigham and Women's Hospital publicly acknowledged issues with the process by which four staff doctors wrote recommendation letters for Dr. Arif Hussain, a convicted rapist. Dr. William Hassan Jr., acting president of BWH, stated that the hospital intends to form a committee that aims to address deficiencies in the peer review process. The hospital executive committee recommended terminating Hussain and his co-defendant, Dr. Eugene Sherry, from the hospital staff. Hussain, Sherry, and another doctor were convicted of rape, and Hussain used the letters to secure a position at Buffalo Children's Hospital, which was unaware of his conviction.| Creator |
